ABOUT THE NAME
People often ask me, "What's up with the name HeavensFire?" Well,
the answer isn't nearly as perplexing as some might imagine.
Back in '98 I was thinking about the mainstream perceptions of Hell and "Hell
fire." It seemed that Hell and demonic forces were always being used as
symbols of power, strength, and something to be feared. You see it on television
and in movies all the time. But I really couldn't understand how people could
think this.
All demonic forces have been defeated. They are powerless. You can't even compare
demonic "power" to that of the Creator of the Universe, because they
don't have any power. And even if you tried to make such a comparison, it would
be similar to comparing a speck of dust to the infinite Universe.
So I decided to try and think of a phrase or saying that showed the greater
power of God over and above the dark and demonic. I thought for a while but
drew a total blank. Then God whispered to me and said "Heaven's Fire."
Now why didn't I think of that!
I started using HeavensFire as a nickname for various online activities (IRC,
e-mail, etc.) but even then I hadn't grasped the significance of the name. How
could I? I wasn't even able to come up with it on my own, much less assign it
some kind of meaning. But over time God showed me what Heaven's Fire really
was.
Some people are confused by it because they associate fire with Hell. But if
you weigh each side you find that God has a lot more fire than Hell ever did.
Our God is a consuming fire.
Deuteronomy 4:24 - For the LORD your God is a consuming
fire, a jealous God.
To the Jews, God was the God who answered by fire...
1 Kings 18:24 - "Then you call on the name of
your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by fire-he
is God." Then all the people said, "What you say is good."
1 Chronicles 21:26 - David built an altar to the
LORD there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called
on the LORD, and the LORD answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of
burnt offering.
Fire can represent God's Strength and Power...
2 Thessalonians 1:6-7 - God is just: He will pay
back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled,
and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven
in blazing fire with his powerful angels.
Revelation 1:14 - His head and hair were white like
wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.
It can also represent the Holy Spirit...
1 Thessalonians 5:19 - Do not put out the Spirit's
fire
The Lord baptizes His Children with fire...
Matthew 3:11 - I baptize you with water for repentance.
But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not
fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
He tests and refines us with fire...
1 Corinthians 3:12-13 If any man builds on this foundation
using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown
for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed
with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
1 Peter 1:6-7 - In this you greatly rejoice, though
now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes
even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise,
glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
But what Heaven's Fire is to me...
Acts 1:8 - But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Heaven's Fire is the Holy Spirit upon His Children. It's the empowerment to
live the abundant life and be followers of The Way. It's the Anointing, the
Gifts, and the Power of Almighty God residing inside of us; the same power that
spoke all of creation into existence.
Hell fire just doesn't stand a chance.
